I almost forgot to file mine -and it's a substantial property tax discount.Can be done only once a year.
It's form 19-71.The County website link didn't work for me.
Google helped :

So if anyone hasn't filed yet,you can mail this form and a copy of your DL to the address on it or bring it to the Real Property Tax Division in person.

Another reminder. If you own a rental property which you rent within the low income guidelines, you need to re-file with the County before Dec 31 to continue the deduction. Essentially it allows you to take a HO deduction on a rental property.

You only have to file once for the homeowner exemption and it will become effective in August of the following year. You do need to refile for the affordable rental program every year.

I think the county's fiscal year starts/ends? August. Tax bills go out August and February.

I guess,they go by Chinese New Year..
February comes earlier than August.Go figure..

Fiscal years have NOTHING to do with 'being in Hawaii'...
Fiscal years normally are not the same as the calendar year. Almost every county I have lived in, along with most state & federal budgets are on summer fiscal years. (BTW: best time to get a fed grant is in the summer, normally depts. are spending off before the new fiscal year...) Corporation fiscal years are also offset, most in summer or fall.... Check with the IRS for the reasons...
