dumped dog=rescued dog=adopted dog
#1
on new year's eve, an unfamiliar caucasian man in a black older ford ranger, passed by our house with a dog tied up in the bed of his truck. when he was leaving, no dog. soon there after, the dog was spotted trying to chase the truck down. it appears her owner dumped this poor very malnourished animal.

right now, we are caring for her, but she needs a good home. she's very loving, but does not seem to get along with our animals. also, she's a very good escape artist and has gotten out of a chain linked kennel twice. we've had to tie her in the kennel for her own safety.

anyone?

update: tomorrow we will drop off this little doggie to her new home. a fellow punawebber has adopted her.

You are amazing...what a great friend you are both. This girl was treated like a throw-away toy and thank goodness she ended up in a space where people recognize her value. I do hope that she finds a loving home soon. Please keep us posted. Mahalo.

Oh my gosh! Reading this made me sick to my stomach. God bless you for your kind heart, too bad you didn't get a plate number.

I have seen plenty of dogs need rescuing this year. times are hard.

I had a friend years back who hit on hard times. He had 4 wolf-mix dogs that he cared for like family. Things got so bad (we didn't know) that he couldn't afford to feed them. He got up one morning and shot them all. He almost went off the deep end.

So when someone abandons a dog, it might be because....

yes. times are hard for a lot of people. but, this person coward who dumped his dog could just as easily taken her to a no-kill shelter or to the humane society or done as your friend. there's no reason to starve the poor animal to death.

enticingart: yeah. didn't think fast enough to get the plate number.

kani,

I agree that there were undoubtably better options. In my friends case he should have asked for help, etc. As it turned out he was so malnurished himself, he couldn't think straight. At least this guy did what he did to give the poor animal some chance.

What amazes me is the loyalty they show even after such abuse. She chased the truck driven by the man who dumped her. That's intense, as we used to say when we were younger and more intense. I would really like to live in a society that would ARREST and prosecute such a person...but I want that society to be in a tropical place. French polynesia? Do the Dutch have any Pacific possessions?

dan,

there are only two options here: 1) a no-kill shelter and for us to care for her until we can get her there. 2) for a loving family to adopt her.

in her condition, there's no chance she would have survived living in the forest.

I don't think the 'Assume the best' philosophy applies here. I think this sentence would apply when the truck went by the first time, with the dog in it. But when the guy left with dog chasing, no need to assume anymore, the act has been done. There is nothing about the act left to assume.

The motivation for someone to do this is somewhat irrelevant. This is like the current trend of pushing for certain crimes to be categorized as 'hate crimes', where an act would get some certain punishment, but the exact same act gets much worse punishment if the court determines that they knew what was on the guy's mind at the time. Thought control?

Seems to me if the guy did this to his dog, it doesn't matter what was on his mind.

There is almost no chance of survival for domestic pet dumped in the forest. It is a death sentence of slow starvation. I personally believe the individual that did this should be sentenced to the lowest depths of hell to suffer eternal damnation and I would be delighted to hurry him on his way.[Sad!]
