The above video has to do with two canneries in American Samoa. One cannery, Chicken-of-the-Sea objected when the Samoan exemption was removed from minium wage experts and they were forced to pay their 2,000 employees 50 cents more per hour to meet the minimum. In disgust, Chicken-of-the-Sea threw these people out of work and left the island. They went to Georgia where they invested $20 million dollars......$20 MILLION dollars in an automated plant that employs fewer people.
Starkist, unphased, remained on the island.
I won't buy Chicken-of-the-Sea again.
Samoan emigration is undoubtedly up as a result of the tragic tsunami and, perhaps, the unfortunate and unpatriotic closing of this plant in favor of a $20 million plant run by robots.
All the more reason to catch your ahi in Hawaii, if possible, and to reduce your mercury intake in any case.
