OK, Here's a slightly off topic, but not really, kind of funny true story of kalapana legend:
Back in the early nineties, a couple of Puna Nurserymen got an order from Maui for several hundred sprouted Coconuts, at $3 ea.
They parked their truck (full of beer) at the shoreline near Left Point, and offered the local beachhangers "one beer fo one coconut wit sprout".
What a sight! People emerging from the bush with an armload of sprouted nuts, then staggering back to search for more. The pick up was overloaded within a couple of hours; The guys made a couple of bucks profit on each coconut, and never left their truck.
