Tipis and platform tents are a pretty cool option for a temporary place to stay on a bit of land while building. When you don't need them anymore for your main place to stay, you can keep them up as a wonderful getaway, guest quarters, pack 'em up and resell...
You'd want to build them on a platform to avoid rot (and way nicer that way anyway). Tipi costs can be brought down by getting some local straight poles here... Eucalyptus... Even Bamboo would work well.
