We are putting Hardiplanks over t-111 not for insulation purposes but for looks.
The 5/8" T-111 here looked terrible and Robert rebuilt part of a wall and changed a doorway but on our non-existent budget he had to piece the t-111 together to fill in where he changed the wall and doorway. We found someone on MynaBird selling 140 pcs of 5 1/2 reveal hardiplank for $100 so we are basically using the old t-111 as the sheathing ply behind the hardiplanks. This will create the "beachy" cottage look I am going for and we also dont have to buy 8 sheets of ply just to replace the t-111. I dont think the taller hardiplank would have worked on the front of this house as it is small. So the smaller planks are more proportional.
The benefit is it of course adds an insulation factor which is good because at the moment till spring, we have reeds acting as "sheetrock" on the inside! Think Disneyland's Enchanted Tiki Room.
(***PS And this is my plug for Myna Bird which I never paid attention to before - our personal shopper, Mom, listens every day with our "list" and finds all the best deals on there! She found 5 brand new 5040's for $230 for us. Who needs Home Depot when you have Myna Bird??!!)
