We have used the smooth Hardipanel to redo our interior walls....
Have not noticed extreme brittleness - in fact we do have to flex the panels to get them into our SIP tracks, with no problems,...

I will note that HPM had a panel product that was VERY brittle, and they were seeling it off fairly inexpensive... looked just like Hardipanel, but brittle as a twig... it would break on the pallet, lucky for us the warehouse guys were very honest about the product ...
