Phone SCAM claiming to be First Hawaiian Bank
#17
Rob - if the calls are like the ones I got it's a robocall - there isn't a human on the other end of the line so they're unlikely to get bored. This isn't the first time I've received one of these calls (the last was about a year ago) and wondered about just putting the phone down rather than hanging up and costing them long-distance charges. Trouble is, I suspect they've either hijacked someone's phone account, called via some free internet account or just paid a small amount of money for free long-distance calling. However they've done this I'm sure it's not costing them any time and wouldn't be surprised if the calls are coming from overseas.

I don't know how easy it is to spoof caller-ID but out of the two or three calls I've had caller-ID said it was from the mainland, but every time they're from a different state.

First time this happened to me, as I said about a year ago, I called FHB and told them I'd received a scam phone call claiming to be from them. FHB couldn't have been less interested, or at least the person I eventually spoke to gave that impression. I was pretty surprised by their attitude.
