Volcano for visitors daytrip?

MDD...no offense taken. I was there today, BTW, and the crowd was mostly (like 90%) mixed-sex couples. Mondays tend to be "gay days" at Kehena, the rest of the time during the week, it's a mixed cxrowd. Weekends, it tends to be more families with kids, and the Sunday drum circle tradition brings out the, er, "eclectic" demographic Smile

And Carol, you are so right about the dangers of swimming at both Kehena and Verna's... waves and currents can be unpredictable, and I've seen numerous folks sucked out to sea (who were fortunately rescued by local swimmers exuipped with a surf board and tow rope). I'm 6'6, 200+ pounds (we'll leave it there...), and even I've been swept off my feet by wave backwash while standing on the shore.
