Have you looked into SunRun? If you are on the grid you can get 95% of your energy via a solar system they install and maintain. You enter a 20 year agreement to pay essentially your current (or slightly less) electric bill to them and Helco. You don't "own" the system but you don't have to bother with it either. The best part is $0 up front and you can always buy out the system from them if you ever have the money. It's basically creative financing and they get the tax credits. I'm always broke so this was the only option for me. They're supposed to install it in March.
