Paul W, I said the HAwaiian people, not residents of Hawaii. If you do proper research you will see that 90% of the Hawaiian people voted against statehood. Do more research and you will see how even internal Hawaiian elections were rigged by wealthy plantation owners to serve their own needs.
MDD7000, you are a fool and discussing anything with you is useless at best. Destructive at worst.
Kings Kamehameha I and II did give away large amounts of valuable land to satisfy debts with Westerners. A lot of that land was sandalwood forests which were quickly clear cut. Many of those debts were trumped up far beyond their original value. The Hawaiians were innocent of that kind of thievery. Before some of you get all upset, I'm not saying they were perfect by any means. I'm talking about the theft of land by devious means. The Hawaiian brand of thievery was based more on a notion of community.
HHL was established as a way for Americans to satisfy their guilt. Unfortunately that guilt only went so far as most HHL land is fairly useless.
