Even as a republican, I largely agree with the akaka bill. Land does need to go back to the people, and they should be able to run it their way. With as many private interests, and the like, that would be one hell of a fight though.
How would it get decided though? What would happen if people are living on that land? I'll use myself as an example. We moved here to help the in laws through a difficult period. That took literally every penny we have (living on my $400 a month unemployment currently) In that case, I fully expect to get asked to leave. It is beautiful here, but in 4 months, I am still a haole. No social circle, and because of my love of guns, largely still Alaskan mindset.
How and where do you make the distinction of what and where? I only see a lot of trouble, but am open to ideas.
