container gardening in Upper Puna
#1
Hi All! I just moved to the Upper Puna area a couple weeks ago and am trying to plan a small, personal veggie garden for cool and warm season. I am from the south (Tennessee) and have experience veggie gardening there, but this is a whole new world for me! I looked over the forums and didn't see what I wanted to know, so thought I would just.. ask Smile

Basically, I am planning on doing container gardening under the awning of our cabin to protect from the rain and have a little more soil to work with. With this in mind, I was wondering what plants you guys think may do well in Upper Puna? I will be experimenting these first couple of years with several plant types, and many I've seen grown quite well in Lower Puna area. Some I had in mind are: spinach, kale, yams, tomatoes, sweet onion, green onion, bell pepper, chile pepper, different types of squash, lima beans, green snap beans, and japanese eggplant.

Any advice, criticisms, thoughts, ideas, questions... are welcome and encouraged! I think this my first post on here, although I've been reading along and learning lots for a while now. Thank you all in advance for any advice, tips, etc!

ALOHA!
