Puna police presence receives a new base
#4
I got a personal tour of the new station from one of the CPO’s we have worked with in the HPP Neighborhood Watch. This facility really will improve law enforcement in Puna. For HPP, it gives us better response times on the Pahoa side of our subdivision. It has three holding cells, one of which is a double, plus a juvenile detention room, thus reducing the need to shuttle prisoners to larger facilities. It will also improve efficiency by allowing Pahoa based officers to file their computerized paperwork from their own station rather than going to Kea’au to do it. (Apparently the old Pahoa station never got a computer upgrade sufficient to handle the standard formats used.) The driver’s license office is the icing on a nice cake.

I did have to put in a plug for my own turf, though, and remind some of the officials there that the next substation needs to be in HPP.
