Dayna, All of the plants named grow here, and some are easier & less expensive than others. (be aware that bringing in seeds & plants from some growers is one of the sure ways to import in nasty invasive bugs & plant diseases, so it is best to get plants locally & be sure they are clean!)
We have Christmas palm nuts most of the time & usually have about a hundred seedlings twice a year that give away, along with Pandan (screwpine) plants that have edible leaves...and yes, we are in an area with just about every imaginable pest, and we make sure plant material is cleaned before giving it away....
Thank you to everyone! I'm very excited to come in December and start working on our property. Hawaii is so much like Alaska (just warmer) that we already feel at home. Here in Juneau we have our property full of "alaskan" type plants, blueberry bushes, ferns, sitka spruce, etc. Other than adding lots of palms, we'd like our property in Hawaii to be the same, lots of naturally occuring plants.
Can you tell how excited I am?!?
