There is a wonderful solution to keeping your dogs on your lot. An Ultra Light dog fence. This is a wire that you surround your property with and connect with your electrical system. It can be in the ground, on the ground or woven through jungle a few feet off the ground. Special collars that you put on your dogs deliver an unpleasant ticking sound then barely a shock as they get close to the wire. Get the one that you can adjust the strength. I have pretested the collars on myself (not saying I put them around my neck) to know that it is nothing harmful. You train your dogs by walking around the parameter with them. We got ours, the cheapest we could find, from monellpets.com. The dogs will hear something on the road and run up only to 5 feet before the wire. After a while, they are pretty much trained to stay within your lot. Not saying this is foolproof, but so far....2 years. I think it cost about 300 dollars a few years ago for two dog collars and 2 acres of wire. I will say that the collars that the device comes on is crap and if you have 2 dogs or more that play and bite each other by the collars, get a better collar with a better latch to put the device on. All in all way cheaper than a chain link fence.
