I agree with hotinhawaii. The snarkiness may be amusing, but the police in Puna do a lot with very little. The one police office I have met is highly trained, very intelligent and has a genuine interest in Puna and in keeping it safe. When I was off island, they did a lot for me and for my neighborhood. Domestic Violence calls are very dangerous for police officers and so I am very comfortable with multiple officers responding to the scene. Remember, domestic violence is prevalent in Puna. The victims often don't realize how deep in they are until it comes to blows. And even that may not be enough to get through at times. This ignorance of the facts may include trained professionals who are adept at spotting it everywhere but in their own backyard (the cobblers children have no shoes). I could go on there, but I won't.
