afw, Thanks for your volunteer work at the caucus in Pahoa.
PaulW - not only did Paul take the Big Island but he was 30% to Romney's 31% on Maui (9 votes apart). I guess Oahu & Kauai prefer voting via their religious affiliations rather than for constitutionalists. Honolulu definitely has a much higher proportion of Mormons than the Big Island.
So far, all I have heard is why Dr. Paul is not good. Why are any of the others advantageous?
If anyone is under any illusions that the other candidates (or their supporters) are not racist, this is what I heard from a white older woman, who is a Romney supporter, when I was in line in Pahoa and told her I was a 1st time republican voter:
She said "...you need your ID. In some states, you dont need an ID. I think those poor people, THOSE Mexicans, they should have ID's". I said ..... remaining calm only because I was speechless....."I am Mexican and I have an ID".... I thought she was going to melt or something because she was standing next to a MEXICAN. I wonder what would have happened if I said I was raised as a Catholic???? LOL
That said, the other thing I observed was a lack of color, not in ethnicity, but in clothing. I gotta say the Puna hippies are much more colorful than the Puna Republicans in their greys and browns.
