FYI: Special Council Meeting regarding geothermal on April 24, 2012. Being held at Pahoa High School Cafeteria beginning at 6:00pm. Two presentations are scheduled, the first for health concerns and the second for cultural issues.
Please attend, and provide testimony, either written or spoken (3 minutes allowed per subject). Somehow our community needs to be heard, both for and against geothermal, and all cultural aspects need to be addressed (there are varied beliefs, no one Hawaiian can speak for others; there are 400,000 of us nationwide).
The Puna community (I believe, and am happy to be corrected) population is 45,000 approximately, and to allow a few to speak for our entire community is not productive, nor an accurate portrayal of our Puna.
Very pleased the County Council finally realizes Puna needs to be heard on this subject, as the future of geothermal includes a big portion of our island (HELCO's RFP at the PUC right now is for 50MG at Hualalai).
Hopefully, everyone will feel this is important enough to attend or provide written testimony to the Council. Mahalo.
