rbrgs, please read the entire Wikipedia offering, all the way to the bottom. The NRA and other gun ownerships groups have funded many "studies" trying to support this claim.
As Kathy states, I am neither afraid of guns or do I oppose them for hunting. Like her, I also do not like killing anything, perhaps to more of an extreme, but I also realize that I live in the real world and I accept what I can't change. However, I have not only been shot, but I have seen the effects of gun violence first hand. The fact is that most people who carry become targets and are unable to achieve their weapon in time when attacked. The criminal winds up with the gun. And to all you macho gun types - until you have shot and killed someone who was doing nothing more than robbing you of a few posessions, you have a great deal of ignorance on the harm you will cause yourself emotionally. There are many non lethal ways to protect yourself and your property. The logic of more guns, less violence is well beyond absurd.
