I wouldn't say I have a vendetta. I was stating my opinion in a clear and reasoned manner, people have taken issue with it, so I've responded back. Rene's statement that the alternative to selling tap water at a store as some miracle treatment (when it is available for free from the County in several roadside locations) is to give children non-potable water with pathogens, speaks for itself and made clear the futility of responding with information about the scientific method. I still appreciate all the work she's done around redistricting, fighting invasive species, etc. I feel no need to defend my shopping decisions to Davinci or anyone else. The decision here is about voting for candidates or not. For anyone that is happy with whatever candidate you're supporting in whatever race, well that's great. Many people don't decide on some races until they are in the voting booths. I certainly haven't yet in this race, or County Council 5 for that matter but have ruled out a candidate in each race.
Mr. Ruderman--your response comes across (to me anyway) as feeling voters that disagree with you have a vendetta. I just don't particularly like the selling of hoaxes, whether it is the supplement industry or the pharmaceutical industry. I think any educated person should be upset when others (especially those most economically struggling) are fooled into throwing their money away on things without proven benefit. Please see any of the links above for example. It upsets me that so many people in Puna seem to avoid proven medical treatments in hopes that lighting a candle in their ear or drinking tap water will magically cure them. "You don't understand alkaline water." "They know something you don't." How is that "reasoning" any different than the reasoning of a religious fundamentalist? This is a tendency among alternative "medicine" and supplement advocates I am particularly wary of. I never said you were a bad guy. Please don't tell me what I would prefer. By having a well-reasoned and scientifically supportable opinion I am "nitpicking about his accomplishments." And you infer I am not letting "reality get in the way." Yet you defend alkaline water despite overwhelming scientific evidence that it is a hoax. Your reaction here to someone who disagrees with you is interesting, to say the least. I'll have to check out the video of the roundtable discussion, so thanks for that info. I expect it is very likely that you will win, and if so I'll be happy for you and expect you will do a decent job. This thread asked for individual takes on the candidates, so I gave mine on one. If the other candidates had stores that I had opinions on I would have shared those too. I don't expect any candidate, store owner, etc to please all the people all the time. I also don't expect them to tell those that disagree with some aspect of their record that they have a vendetta, are nitpicking, and aren't dealing with reality.
I really would like to hear more opinions on the other candidates, and I appreciate the pro-Ruderman comments too. I also appreciate that Mr. Ruderman has worked towards bettering Puna and supporting local farmers, solar, and recycling.
I'd also be inclined to vote for a candidate that says they will introduce gay marriage legislation every session until it passes, try widen 130 much faster than currently planned, demand Oceanic provide top notch internet to more rural areas in order to retain their monopoly, dramatically expand geothermal and solar, get us a hospital with an ED, and increase taxes on the wealthy significantly.
