Hunters caught smuggling axis deer and sheep
#7
There is plenty of data available on the millions of dollars in damage done to crops, as well as damage to the wild life, where the axis deer already are. Farmers cannot afford to fence out a deer that jumps easily over a 10 foot fence, what they don't eat they trample.

The genie is already out of the bottle on the feral cats, which do cause tremendous damage to the native ecosystems, but that shouldn't justify importing new problems. That is like saying that since the bank had already been robbed once, there is no need to prosecute a second bank robber.

Moving those animals was an illegal act under Hawaii statutes, those laws need to be enforced and violators prosecuted and punished to the fullest extent possible. Or held liable for damages to Big Island crops, which could end up running into the millions if they cannot be eradicated.
