Have toured both island breweries. In their tour, Kona Brewery does state that they do not do all of their brewing in Kona, and they have reasons (shipping costs, land costs, material costs to name a few).
They do brew in Kona, mostly formulating & microbrew batching, and the specialty brews that are offered at the restaurant are locally brewed.
So like Kona coffee, hula skirts, flower/shell lei, lauhala mats & other 'Hawaiian' items, it is buyer be aware... much is not made here, and if it is, probably has a higher cost... but it is nice that some of it is made here, and some do not have a higher cost...and Mehana's is well worth the time to visit!
