Geckos and lizards
#10
Phelsuma Laticauda have been in Hawaii since 8 of these Madagascar lizards were released on the U or H Manoa campus in 1974. there is also another day gecko on Oahu, the eve more attractive and scarcer Phelsuma guimbeaui
both of these day geckos can be attracted by placing out mashed banana or baby food in a lid. They eat insects and fruit, I used to raise day geckos years ago, I had many different types.
Oahu has far more different types of lizards than we do here on the Big Island, ie the impressive Tokay Geckos and even wild Green Iguanas,3 types of Anole including the huge Cuban knight anole and beautiful poison dart frogs that have been here so long (80+ years) they have evoloved slightly when compared to their central american cousins..... the whole state has far more reptiles than youd think, there are about 1/2 dozen different spieces of the tan/brown nocturnal geckos and some are thought to be indigenous, and same with the small skinks, there are also about a 1/2 dozen different types of them too, but the most common one we see here is the metallic skink from Australia (Lampropholis delicata).

PS we also have alot of snakes in Hawaii too unlike those lame rumors that Hawaii is snake free lol Smile
I catch them all the time while doing landscaping in lower Puna. They are called Brahminy blind snake, Brahminy blindsnake or "flowerpot snakes" (Ramphotyphlops braminus), they are all over Puna, but mostly in the less wet areas of Orchidland down to the coast ie HPP has alot of them

save our indigenous and endemic Hawaiian Plants... learn about them, grow them, and plant them on your property, ....instead of all that invasive non-native garbage I see in most yards... aloha
