I remember when I lived up Kaiwiki. There was an excavator that was doing some work up there and ended up about 70' down into the river. YIKES!!! They left that machine there for about 6 months, scratching their heads and trying to come up with a plan. Eventually they got a huge machine with a winch, anchored it to the opposite side of the road, carved in a ramp starting from the bottom where the tractor was and slowly, slowly got that bugger back up topside again. Can you imagine?! I bet they're still talking about that one up there...
