All regions of the Big Island put out exceptional coffee. Just so happens, Kona has had the lionshare of the market for most of recent history. That Ka'u product is for real. Quite possibly some of the best coffee you will ever have in your life. And they have done all the right things to move their product to the front of the high-end coffee lines. Being the "best of the USA," and "TOP 5 in the world," is no small feat. Those farmers work very hard. Kudos to Ka'u.
But as I stated in the early lines of this post, the entire Big Island got great coffee. I've had from Puna (lower and upper), I've also had some grown up in Kaiwiki. Hamakua got a nice earthy taste. All good coffee.....with different variations depending on region. Ka'u has always grown great produce. The combination of abundant sunshine and land makes it the perfect spot for agriculture. Water can be an issue, but for the most part, Ka'u should be the state's bread basket.
