Regarding "High Crime Rate" in Nanawale
#6
I've lived in Nanawale for 34 years. It is the second largest subdivision in Puna, with 4200 lots compared to Paradise Park's 8400. But most of Nanawale's lot sizes are about 1/5 of an acre, compared to HPP's acre-plus lots. Lower Puna has the cheapest land, the cheapest home rentals in the state.

Anyone who doesn't realize lower Puna is a green ghetto hasn't done the research, or who doesn't think such a place is going to harbor all the state's social ills is not being realistic.

Dysfunction in individuals, families, communities waxes and wanes with what is going on in the larger community over which they have no control. If you teach at one school in the same community for a number of years, you see this happening.

Nanawale has gone through the same things. And in tough times, that harshness gets highlighted here. We are home to many wandering souls from all over the globe, seeking shelter from the buffeting of unknown previous lives that we can only guess at. Many have found great solace here and their dysfunction starts healing; others succumb to their troubles.

My little lot in Nanawale, tho, is my piece of Paradise. I consider it amongst the greatest blessings of my life. My global friends and family love to spend time here with me...their biggest threat is the noise of the coquis (which I have grown to love)!

There is great beauty in Nanawale, great love. Families displaced by the Kalapana lava inundations have relocated here. But it is also home to some of the most economically challenged residents of our state. Think about just where in Nanawale you want to locate...there are whole blocks with no developed lots at all, some with very thick forest and miles down into the giant cul-de-sac of lower Puna. There are also some very nice homes with stunningly landscaped gardens and wonderful friends and neighbors.

Headlines are for grabbing attention...
