I drive a toyota prius hybrid everyday and have since buying it new in 2007. I am a big supporter of toyota but I would never buy a prius again. Many reasons.
The interior is so poorly made its literally disintegrating. I chose the "cloth" interior over leather and have regretted it at every turn.
The rest of the interior that's not cloth is also poorly made and scratches easily.
The exterior is much the same issue! I chose the grey color and any tiny knick how's up white and of course would cost a fortune to fix. Trying to work with the toyota service centers for anything mechanical / aesthetic is like dealing with the mafia! You're better off getting a brand new car at their prices!
Overall I'd say its a great lesson in planned obsolescence. The hybrid model is far easier to insure a breakdown of individual and costly components to keep money trickling into toyota after the initial purchase cost.
52 mpg? Keep dreaming. My average may hit 40 mpg ...which is what my 1994 civic got just fine without a hybrid motor.
Terrible investment. Thought I spent. 22k usd not 40k dunno which costs that much? Maybe the glitzy new models.
