I am also planning to move to Puna later this year. I have explored most of Puna by visiting 40+ times over the last 20 years, and Volcano is to cold for my taste. Vog is not often a problem in Volcano from what I have heard and experienced.
What I am certain about is nobody likes to talk about it. It is kind of like if you don't talk about it it will go away. [
