Im only at the 1,200' level of Upper Puna (Mt.View), but have alot of rain, and the hibiscus love it here. I have all 11 of the endemic and indigenous species and at least 15-20 different types of the cultivated nonnative hybrids...
they (hybrids) are one of the easiest of all ornamentals to propagate by cutting, so easy you just cut off an branch and jam it in the moist ground and they root out 90% of the time...
on average its only 5-10 degrees cooler at times even at the Volcano Park area of Upper Puna, so they should do well there too I would think
