Yes, unknownjulie, this is a very large generalization, and I don't really understand what you are saying. How can you "hoard" a job? Generally a person OF ANY AGE has a job because he/she needs one to survive. And why is it harder for younger people to get ahead than it was for us older people? I & many of my peers struggled to find a job, feed the family, keep a roof over our heads. There was even a few years when we had to get food stamps & surplus gov't food to get by. It was by no means "easy." Now I'm 68 and finally can collect the social security I paid into all those years. I can count on that every month, and we've paid off our modest house after a 40 year mortgage- is that the disparity in wealth you seem to resent? I don't know who claims our generation worked "harder" or "deserve everything" - it's an age and a path that many younger people are on or are aiming for (owning a home, having some income to live on in retirement).
I and many of my friends in Puna also give back in many ways to the younger generation by sharing food, taking in young folks who need a place to stay, etc. I think you've got a skewed view of us elders. I should end with another quote from you:
