Starting in November there is a new procedure for safety inspections. All inspectors will use an iPad to fill out the "paperwork", which includes taking a photo of the rear of the vehicle that will be part of the completed forms that are filed. The photo (of the back of the vehicle showing the license plate and any overhanging tires) will be sent to a state database, so any time a car is pulled over by a police officer, they can pull up that photo to compare it to the car in front of them. If the safety inspection photo shows normal tires, and the truck has big overhanging tires the driver gets a ticket. No more "but the safety inspector passed it."
