Aloha all! Does anyone have recipes to share with our Breadfruit ("Ulu")?
My Tutu used to boil it and make poi. She also used to cut into the ulu center and put honey (if you could afford butter, it was a luxury to mix the both). What a treat!
Now, if you slice it thin, you can make ulu chips, or ulu fries. We tried both in bacon fat ([:p]) and NZ butter! Both were fantastic!
Another really good one is boiling with coconut milk, and adding luau leaf, or corned beef (Samoan/Tongan style palusami), fish, curry, or whatever else goes with coconut milk.
(Sure wish my Niners would be as good...[xx(] Sorry, but they're given me heart palpatations!)
Mahalo in advance for the ulu recipes. It's really a great source of vitamins, much like taro, and quite healty. If I could find a way to dip it in chocolate, all would be well in the world!
Wonder if you fried it crisp, then, dipped it in chocolate??!!!?!? Delightful thought, no? [] (Gonna try it...lol.)
