If one lives in a flood zone, they should remain prepared for a flood, when one lives on the side of a volcano, one should be prepared for lava or worse. Why and how does it become the govt.'s responsibility to bail us out? They didn't make us live there, that was our choice and we did so voluntarily.
Sure, they need to reopen roads asap, etc. rescue ones trapped somehow, but not to bail us out financially. That is why they sell insurance. Speaking of which, what kind of rates can one expect on a 100k house in zone 1, zone 2?
