What can I build without permits in Hawaiian Shore

fence - no permit required as longer as it is shorter than 6ft
driveway - as long as you are not grub & grading over one acre, no county permit, but you may need to have an apron
mailbox may not be the simplest, as you may not have an address (depends on the area) & you should definitely let the Pahoa Post Office know (helps to put mail delivery request in writing) oh, and the Post Office does not create the addresses, that is the county tax dept...

Aside from all of that, the county has a minimum sq. ft. requirement for any residence, so before you build, get to know the county building code (and even if you chose not to comply with the building code, a neighbor may want you to... so get to know all of your neighbors & make sure every one of them would never want to complain about anything you do...)
