Sue Nomie I hate to say it... but you will probably continue to experience issues if you are running CS1. Apple and Abobe both want you to upgrade (and pay them more money). There are conspiracy people that are convinced that they purposely write bugs into their software to force you to upgrade... but at the very least they merely "no longer support" older software. As someone who uses that software, writes some code, and runs websites that cater to a wide range of computers... it sometimes can be very difficult to be "backwards compatible" for everyone. And at some point I usually just say screw it to the people that haven't upgraded in 10 years. You gotta set your limit somewhere!
If you use Illustrator or other Adobe software a lot you might want to think about their Could subscriptions. It's $50 a month for the entire suite, or $20 for a single app.
