The performance of many in "Project Kuleana", to the historic song, was the message, not so much the song choice. The intent was to show unity. Not make a political statement by any means. Kala mai.
It is a beautiful song, although written in opposition to the takeover of the Hawaiian Kingdom. It shows the essence of the kanaka maoli character: Not agreeable to the overthrow, but still delivers the message in a beautiful manner. JMO.
