I lived in St. Petersburg Florida for 5 years. I liked it, it had beautiful beaches and nice restaurants and plenty of things to do. However, t could be a pretty conservative once you got of of the main metropolitan areas. Out in the middle of the state it could be downright scary. Lots of mouth-breathers. Overall, I I also didn't find people to be particularly friendly there.

It does have some things in common with Hawaii but it is very different overall. I much prefer Hawaii to Florida.
