MH-47G "Special Operations Aviation" (SOA) version is currently being delivered to the U.S. Army
payload of 22,000 lb-estimated weight of trooper, with gear 250 -275 lb.
22000 divided by 250 - 275 = way more than enough capacity for 20 to 30 troops with gear and other supplies.
I would think that these are the versions,or something quite similar, being used here in Hawaii, and that were seen at the airport that day, incidentally the troops had no patches or insignias visible.
