Nice work Derrick... do you do a lot of field recording for your sounds?
I always wanted to incorporate more field recordings into my music....
Yes, I use allot of different sound sources but definitely field recordings. I don't know if you clicked your way over to my soundcloud page but I post up allot of unedited field recordings and leave them for download in case people want to chop them up and make another composition. I just like listening to raw field recordings.
I have about six or seven new tracks that I will be putting up soon. My new stuff doesn't have as much field recordings. I have a sort of streamlined method now and use a couple of analog synths and two drum machines controlled by ableton. I sort of go through phases of doing things differently to keep my self productive. So I will probably come back to field recordings and found sounds when my current method gets tedious.
Your stuff is cool too. I sort of got into electronic music and art through jungle/drum and bass, house, hip hop, detroit techno, acid etc. I used to go to raves allot in the mid 90s and before I had a good computer (or a computer at all) my friends and I had a set of turntables and we would mix records for fun. I even used to dj every thursday when I was living in Chicago. I don't only listen to electronic music. I have always been into hip hop, punk, experimental music but jungle and aphex twin sort of brought me into djing and eventually making my own music. Actually I have been messing with traktor recently so I've been getting back into djing and every once and awhile someone asks me to dj for some event. I do more eclectic mixes now though I like mixing old and new stuff or sort of improvised remixing.
I saw you are following Soul Slinger. That guy was one of my favorites back in the day, all that liquid sky stuff. DJ Odi etc. I had piles of their mix tapes back when they were being passed around and dubbed on maxell cassettes, haha. Makes me feel old a bit, but not too old, haha. I still love all that stuff and wish I still had those tapes. I still have some vinyl from back then though.
Yea man !
I DJ'd for over a decade from 97-2010.. Soulslinger is a friend, i was introduced to him from my best friend Meszenjah who was with Jungle Sky Liquid Sky for a while and designed some stuff for them.
I'm sure we will connect when I get to the island...
