DT, I can't stand not having air moving through my rooms, and for sure that helps ... and I don't keep my closet doors closed. I also think the climate has been drier. I've also had more mold problems in single wall houses (two, one in Hilo and one in Papa'ikou).
I soon realized after moving here that island style furniture looks great and tropical, but it's not IMHO comfortable or built properly for posture. I'd much rather have a good furniture maker's product that is engineered properly. My couch I brought over here was made in Italy (not super expensive), and they really know what they are doing with upholstered furniture. It's not just a rattan frame with foam cushions.
People say not to bring antiques. My antique oak table has made it through 12 years in this climate and I do almost nothing to maintain it.
Books though, have not fared so well.
