If we had a generator we wouldn't need to stock up on no cook foods.
We always have batteries charged for my husband's medical device, and other than that we just ride out the no power scenarios using candles for light. We keep a lot of bottles of frozen water in our spare freezer, as long as we don't open the door they keep it pretty cold, or if we don't have much frozen food, we can move the ice into our frig and turn it into an old school icebox. Short of a really major disaster, it works for us. We will be building our next house and in addition to being fully wheelchair accessible, it will either be off grid with backup, or we will build in a backup generator, but we couldn't justify the cost to retro fit this house with a wired in generator.
