Carol, there is a fairly new option in inverters that has a plug in even for on-grid that allows you to have power even when the grid is down...we would like to get that on a solar lanai cover that we would LOVE to have installed on our south facing lanai (we would have loved to have had the "Florian solar products" lanai cover with clear back panels (really love the holographic ones...), but the contractor they sent last year would not do footings - WTF was my response...but...you only have a limited supply of people...some are not as luminescent as others...)
