It doesn't matter, the kids need to eat, even if the parents don't see the need.
Our school has such a high percentage of free and reduced lunch kids that it is easier to just feed everyone. A lot of our families have every adult under 65 working 2 or more jobs, often commuting to the Kona side to work in the resorts, and breakfast and good home made lunches end up being lost in the shuffle. School starts early here, 7:30 for our school, the buses pick kids up as early as 6:15 on some rural routes, it is hard enough for a lot of families to get the kids to school. If we can help get them in class, fed, and ready to learn by providing breakfast it is a good thing for everyone.
I am looking forward to not having to try to teach another fast growing adolescent boy who is distracted by his growling belly this year.
