For credit cards, (debit cards are lower fee) higher end rates are 2.9% of transaction plus thirty cents. Lower ends are 1.5% plus seventeen cents. Assuming they are on the higher end, the $6.98 tube of sealant would have cost them fifty cents to process. A ten dollar sale would have cost them fifty nine cents to process. Hard to believe they would throw a sale away in this manner especially considering its possible the $6.98 sale could have potentially had a higher profit margin, depending on what the item was. I can understand not allowing debit/credit cards for purchases on things under a dollar, but any other limitation fails the common sense test.
