Groundbreaking - Pahoa District Park
#36
My husband used to work for a large parks department in their horticulture division. The designers drove the plant guys crazy, one clueless planner wanted to plant redwoods so they would shade a downtown plaza all winter long in the Pacific Northwest. During rare winter sunny days the office workers hung out in the plaza like lizards on a rock, soaking up sun, and this guy thought evergreen trees that would grow to 150 feet were a good idea!!!!!!

This park got approved and planned during Fred Blas' reign, and is a reflection of his priorities. For him, parks meant ball fields. So an expensive park with a disproportionate amount of the facilities going to a narrow audience is Fred's legacy in Puna.
