Aloha neighbors!
Sad, but true that "local" pharmacies have been selling out because of the pressures brought to bear by all the big box stores. They just can't compete. The loss of every one of them hurts us who love working with people we know, especially when we or somebody we love is hurting or circumstances are dire.
Obie, pharmacies have been sharing information for as long as I can remember. It has nothing to do with Obamacare. KTA is known among health care workers as the best at it. They have had a watchful eye on people who troll for Doc's and Pharmacies who will write and fill (sometimes duplicate, triplicate) scripts, especially for narcotics. It's nothing new. The DEA is just applying more pressure now, so more care is being taken to cover their backsides and protect their businesses.
Puamanaki, it's really easy to do a Breech of HIPPA Report. Just Google HIPPA. I understand that you're uncomfortable with any and everyone having access to your medical records. It doesn't sit well with me either. Unfortunately, I doubt that buying a pharmacy and inheriting their records would be considered a "breech". Longs (now CVS) did it a few years ago with the other Pahoa Pharmacy they bought, and it ticked me off at the time too. Unfortunately, we don't have much control over the situation...
