The proximity of the June 27 lava flow to the Apa’a Street area will cause the Department of Environmental Management’s Solid Waste Division to relocate the Pahoa Recycling and Transfer Station.
According to a release Thursday afternoon from the Department, general use of the current transfer station is set to close at the end of the business day on Friday. Recycling services, including green waste, scrap metal, white goods, HI-5, and reuse areas will close at noon to allow time to move equipment.
The temporary site for the transfer station will be located on Kauhale Road above the Pahoa Neighborhood Facility. Operation are scheduled to begin at the new location beginning at 6 a.m. on Saturday morning.
