We just got back from the one-man performance of "Vincent", a play written by Leonard Nimoy, performed by Jim Jarrett at Jason Scott Lee's Ulua Theatre in Volcano. It's about Vincent Van Gogh told by his brother, Theo, through the numerous letters that Vincent sent to him. It was a wonderful performance and production! It runs for two more nights, so if you're interested in seeing a top-notch performance you still have a chance to see it. Jarrett was living and teaching acting in Hawi when the script was sent to him. He's been performing it for 11 years. One of the nicest elements was the Q&A afterwards with Jarrett.
I think tickets are available at CD Wizard in Hilo and at the Volcano Store, $20. All proceeds benefit the Ulua Theatre.
To get to the Ulua Theatre from Hilo:
Drive up Highway 11 toward Volcanoes National Park. Between the 26 and 27
mile markers, turn into Volcano Village on Haunani road. Follow Haunani
road all the way to the end (it is a long, straight, paved road). Just
before you reach the end of the road you will see a large, red, wooden gate
on your left. Go through the gate, then follow the gravel driveway toward
the right, which will lead you directly to the Ulua Theatre.
