quote:gypsy, my ohana gets NOTHING from geothermal, nor have any of us received one red cent from OHA in our entire lives. In fact, (sorry, O/T) I do not believe OHA serves the people of this state (all of us) very well. The truth is, the State of Hawaii owns the resource, and we own the resource (all of us).

Opihikao, I find it interesting that you are so pro geothermal. Maybe your ohana benefits from it in more ways than we know. The Office of Hawaiian Affairs (Oha) gets paid off by geothermal just like the county. They receive twenty percent of the geothermal royalties. It seems like geothermal has paid off the right people.
Bottom line, I don't want my keiki and mo'opuna paying 45 cents a KWH or more in the future. Thanks to the law in Hawai'i, the cost of geothermal has been tied to the price of oil for the existing contract.
Without exact proof that geothermal is causing health issues (there is still no evidence to date, and thankfully, the Health study is being done finally), there is little chance of change.
punatic007, for the record, my statement was a ten (10) mile buffer zone was not an "International standard". Not that a buffer zone is not warranted. In fact, I agree with leilanidude's assessment of a one (1) mile radius. After work today, I'll get my links, you get yours, and let's work towards the middle.
